There are images of a benchtop Vertical Milling Machine of my own design.
It is designed around two 8" inch steel pipes, welded to form the body. The motor and belts are inside the pipe - not very convenient, but I just couldn't resist. The bolts sticking out the back tension the belts. The X-Y-Z table has 6" of travel in all directions.
In the image, light grey is cast aluminum, dark grey is cold rolled steel.
