Note: After Ralph and India were married, India's foster father Harold Rogers talked Ralph's other into paying him a lump sum for his services, for which he had never been paid. Harold Rogers also employed Ralph and India on his farm for a time, and later co-signed a loan that allowed Ralph and India to buy a dairy farm. Ralph gained a reputation for consistantly having the cleanest farm in the area. They eventually built a small house on one corner of the land and sold the rest. Ralph went to work, usually at the Bendix Aviation plant in ?, NY, where he made wiring harnesses for aircraft. The job was not assured, however, and Ralph was often laid off. During these times, he worked elsewhere, often at the Remmington Arms Plant in Illion, NY. India went to work in a dress factory in Courtland, NY. When Ralph's mother, Lanora Cathrine Stockwell became ill, they cared for her for many months. After her death, Ralph's sister Marian cleaned out her house, taking everything of value, including a freezer that Ralph and India had given her. Ralph never spoke to his sister again. She eventually died of cancer.
