ACT V

SCENE I:Eliza's mother's house is a tall, elegant, two story white home. The outside is surrounded by a plain yard with a mulberry tree for decoration. All the windows are covered with the curtains and shades. A small cement sidewalk leads up to an elegant porch with a heavy door of some dark wood and glass with a shiny round handle. Eliza's mother is in a long plain black dress and is crying during the scene. The inside of the house is dark with all the lights shut off and is furnished with elegant antiques. Eliza's bedroom the windowscreen is ajar. The covers in the tall bed are slightly messy and the glass in the window is gone. The window looks out the side of the house NOT facing the road to a plain backyard with a few pine trees being the only things to decorate the plain grass.

BRAD walks up the porch steps with COURTNEY following him and knocks on the heavy doors.

BRAD: Are you sure she'll be up to it? I mean, she's so upset, isn't she?

The heavy doors open a crack suddenly with a loud creak causing COURTNEY and BRAD to jump.

ELIZA'S MOTHER: Oh come in, it's been so lonely since Eliza's gone.

ELIZA'S MOTHER opens the door wider and beckons them inside. BRAD and COURTNEY exchange glances before following her into the dark interior.

They go into the elegant dining room. ELIZA'S MOTHER sets a teapot and three teacups on the table.

ELIZA'S MOTHER: I'm so glad you're here it's just been so lonely. Now do you want one lump or two?

COURTNEY and BRAD sit down the elegant chairs made of reddish wood.

COURTNEY: Er, one please. We came to ask you about Eliza's death.

ELIZA'S MOTHER bursts into tears and pulls out a pale blue handkerchief. She wipes her eyes.

ELIZA'S MOTHER: Oh, I'm so sorry. I'll show you to the door...

ELIZA'S MOTHER stands up.

BRAD: No, all we want to do is have a look around.

ELIZA'S MOTHER: Fine, have your look around, if you must!

BRAD and COURTNEY walk up the marble staircase to ELIZA's bedroom.

COURTNEY: Hey, the window's open, and there's blood on the carpet. She seems to have left a trail of blood! Let's follow it!

BRAD: If we have to...

COURTNEY jumps out the window and BRAD follows her.

SCENE II: Scene II starts with crickets in the background. It's twilight by now. The trail of blood goes out the yard, through a hole in the fence, and continues into a dark forest which Brad and Courtney are wandering around in at the end of the scene.

BRAD and COURTNEY follow the trail of blood into the yard, through the grass and to the fence. BRAD boosts COURTNEY over the fence, then follows. They walk through the wood for a little bit. There is a sudden rustling sound in a bush. Scary music. COURTNEY jumps and stares at the bush.

COURTNEY: Uh, Brad, I think we should go home now...

Red pupil-less eyes (ZOMBIE) glow from the darkness in the shadow of the bush, staring at COURTNEY.

COURTNEY stares back scaredly.

BRAD: Why? What's wrong?

Three second pause. Camera shows the eyes and zooms slowly.

BRAD'S FATHER [from far away]: BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDD! TIME TO COME IN!!!

The sound startles the thing in the bush and with a rustle it runs away but by now it's too dark to tell what it is.

BRAD: I gotta go. See ya, Courtney! *kisses her on the cheek and leaves*

COURTNEY: Wait! I'm coming --

COURTNEY'S MOTHER [also from far away]: COOOOUUURTNEEEEYYYY!!! YOU HAVE HOMEWORK TO DO!

COURTNEY: COMING!

BRAD and COURTNEY run away towards home holding hands.

Camera fades to black, then snaps to Act VI.
