Four Months

A poem I wrote for Manny to celebrate the fact that this Tuesday, 27 May, will mark the end of our fourth month together.

It's been almost four months since that January night
You told me that you love me, and in the firelight
You kissed me sweet and softly; I felt that I could fly
I'd never had the courage to spread my wings and try
Until that January night, when sitting in the firelight, I felt we'd never die.

[I'm not putting the verse for February as it is sort of personal... I mean, really personal....]

It's been almost two months since that terrible March night
I never will forget it, our first and only fight
I thought that you had left me; the light went from my eyes
I sat alone in darkness and wanted just to die
But then a twinkle in my sight; I raised my eyes to sweetest light -- and I saw you were there.

It's been almost a month since that lovely April night
We talked about the future; about a starlit night
Of you and I together on white sand by the sea
The soft light of the golden moon assures us that we'll be
Together on the beach tonight, until the stars are all alight, or 'till the Gods we see.
